Children's and youth books
Art is everywhere - and always has been: from cave paintings to computer drawings. In Kijken voor kinderen (in Dutch), David Hockney, one of the greatest artists of our time, gets kids looking at art.
Whether you're seven or fourteen, Het Grote Kunst Doeboek (in Dutch) is a book you can get started with. Look for details in Rousseau's jungle, learn to draw a princess like Uccello, finish an unfinished work by Michelangelo, and give Holbein's Lady with squirrel and starling more animal friends. As you draw and look, you will learn about world-famous works. You will master drawing tricks and discover facts from the time of the painters themselves.
Discover the museum through the eyes of Nijntje in the booklet Nijntje in het museum (in Dutch). You can hear her thinking: 'And later when I'm bigger I'm going to be an artist'.
Books by photographers
Ilvy Njiokiktjien's photo book Born Free shows young people growing up in South Africa, born after the end of Apartheid in 1991.
Photographer Marvel Harris learned to communicate about his inner world through his profound and intimate self-portraits. In his book Marvel Harris charts his experiences of gender identity, self-love, and mental health.
Martin Parr is Europe's leading contemporary photographer and The Last Resort is the book considered the beginning of his career. Small World was first published in 1996 and is one of Parr's most popular books. He signed some copies specifically for Museum Hilversum!
And there is more. There are photo books about great photographers, such as Annabel Oosteweeghel (in Dutch) and Bertien van Manen, as well as books with tips on how to become a better Smartphone photographer and the publication De kleine geschiedenis van fotografie (in Dutch).

Also nice are the smaller gift items, such as a nice LED pen or a tripod to take your own best photos.
