Collection presentation

Museum Hilversum has been collecting thought-provoking photography and video works since 2013. Photography takes many forms and Museum Hilversum's collection is dominated by news and documentary photographs. A smaller part of the collection consists of art photography. Our collection pieces tell important social stories, they inspire and reflect on the role of media in contemporary society.

The news and documentary photographs are often linked to a particular moment in time. For this exhibition, we chose to bring different collection pieces into dialogue with each other. And reflect on current social developments. We discovered historical trends and, thanks to the photographer's lens, we discovered connections between the present and the past.

Bert Verhoeff (1949) is a renowned photojournalist who has photographed throughout the Netherlands. Verhoeff worked for years for various newspapers, including Het Parool, Volkskrant, and Trouw. Currently, his work is on display at the Zaans Museum. He won the Silver Camera in 1984 and in 1988 Verhoeff was named Photojournalist of the Year.
